Communication as a Tool for Business

Communication in a business setting is perhaps among the most crucial components of success in this modern world.  As societies, products, theories, and technologies are constantly and drastically changing, the basic human need for effective and sincere communication remains the same.  There are many forms and medians of communication in business—advertising, meeting with staff, networking, writing reports and memorandums, public relations, etc., all of which may be verbal or nonverbal.  It is important to improve your language and listening skills in a professional manner, especially to those young students in the beginning stages of their careers.  Keys to overcoming communication barriers include realizing that communication is imperfect, adapting your message to the receiver, questioning your preconceptions, and planning for feedback.  Effectively learning to master communication in a business context will prove to be a most beneficial skill in all aspects of your life, and a very valuable asset to future employers.
